PRR 8616, AS-24M, 1964 |
Description: |
Mann. Here is a color photo (converted to B&W) by an unidentified photographer that was taken near Cresson, Pennsylvania, on 27 August 1964. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8616 and two "EF" Class units whose road numbers are not recorded. #8616 is an AS-24M built by the American Locomotive Company in August of 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. In this context, they're serving as eastbound pushers up to the tunnels in Gallitzin. (Gift from Brad Mann.) |

PRR 8616, AS-24M, 1966 |
Description: |
Winter Day. Here is an original telephoto view that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during February of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #8616 and #8614. Both are AS-24M's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower each. They are passing the Altoona Passenger Station on their way back to East Altoona after making a helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and back. Visible behind them is the PRR Test Plant building. |
