Here is page ten of an 11-page cover article by Bert Pennypacker entitled "Atterbury's Engines: Part 1 ~ Great Increases In Horsepower And Speed." It was published originally in the October 1979 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 31. Photo Caption: "Final flower of 4-8-2 development on the Pennsylvania was the M-1a, immediately identifiable by her huge smokebox saddle. Although fitted with a brakeman's doghouse on her huge tender, Baldwin-built 6707 was given passenger-power striping." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6707, an M-1A built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during April of 1930 and retired in January of 1954 after 24 years of faithful service.
