NST. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred Kern that was taken just West of Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 2 July 1955. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5764 and an E-8 Class "A" unit whose road number is not recorded. Both were built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5764 was built in November of 1952. They are pulling a mail and express train down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve, and are about to pass under the 24th Street Bridge on their way to Altoona and points East. |
