| An inspection train of CSX equipment was heading west on the Southern Pacific SUNSET ROUTE at Avondale, Louisiana. The train had begun its trip the previous day on the CSX in Atlanta and was on its way to Houston. From there it would return home via Shreveport, Memphis and Nashville. The train consisted of FP7A 118, F7B 119, power car SBD 363, office cars 308 THE OLD DOMINION and 317 BALTIMORE, lounge car 319 GREENBRIAR, and track observation car 318. The time was about 7:30 AM and the rear of car 318 was facing directly into the low morning sun, so the roller blind was partially closed for the comfort of the car's occupants. |
