EL E8A #827 - Erie Lackawanna  Contributor's Pick!
Eastbound EL #827 crosses Broad Street in my hometown and hits the EJE/CO/GTW/EL diamond. The diamond was a pure headache for car drivers but a pure joy for railroad enthusiasts. The unit was built by EMD for the Erie in February of 1951 (bldr #12225) and kept the same number through the Erie/DLW merger. Note the signalman's shanty to the left. It has since been moved acroos the street to the Griffith Historical Society land along with the EJE tower which would be behind the unknown photographer on this day in 1971.
