Doyle McCormack purchased the PA pictured below in sad shape from Mexico in 2000 and is restoring it to operating condition as Nickel Plate Road #190. The locomotive recreates the first locomotive in which McCormack, whose father worked for the Nickel Plate Road, got to ride. It is fitted with a more modern Montreal Locomotive Works 251V12 diesel prime mover & other machinery removed from a wrecked former BC Rail M420B. The trucks came from 2 Canadian Pacific Fairbanks Morse C-liners that Doyle knew were sitting in a Canadian scrapyard. It is one of the 4 (ex-D&H #18 nee Santa Fe #62L, Schenectady December 1948) locomotives purchased by the Delaware & Hudson from the AT&SF in 1967. In 1974-1975, these four units were rebuilt for the D&H by Morrison-Knudsen and equipped with ALCO's 251V12 engines. During this rebuilding the units were given the designation PA-4 by MK. D&H would later sell them to the National of Mexico in 1978 |
