Taken only 4 days after its delivery to the Chesapeake & Ohio Rwy, CO #2779 looks resplendent with its shiny jacket and white walled drivers. This was a 1947 Alco class K-4 Kanawha type locomotive (C&O preferred "Kanawha" over Berkshires - local identity). It had 69" drivers, developed 245 psi boiler pressure, and had 69,368 lb tractive force. Forrest W. Trittenbach photo |
