The first goal of anyone headed for the gold fields in the Klondike during the gold rush of 1896 to 1899 was to climb either the ChilKoot Pass from Dyea, AK or the White Pass from Skagway. The second goal was to get to Caribou Crossing (now called Carcross) at the head of Bennet Lake. From Bennet Lake it was a 500-mile boat, raft, etc. ride to Dawson City via the Yukon River. |
