The long-closed Elm Street Bridge over the BNSF Transcon also has its days numbered. The pilings for the bridge were actually constructed by the Santa Fe from 1886 Joliet rolled rail. It's been closed to vehicles for years, but has long been a great location to observe the Santa Fe and BNSF. Now, it's closed off with fencing on the road closed barricades, and marked with no trespassing signs and will allegedly be demolished by late 2012. |
