Conductor Ray Browning is seen stepping from the caboose on Dothan district local #167. Mr. Browning was without a doubt one of the nicest people you would ever meet. He took up a lot of time with a budding railfan (myself) and never tired of my endless questions.....at least he never seemed to. A few years after this photo was taken I went to work with Southern as a clerk/operator. After the many years of him seeing me trackside at Hilton, I think it was a bit of a shock for both of us the first time I handed him a set of train orders I had just copied for his train. Mr. Browning was known as "Daddy-O" to many. He passed away in the mid 1980's due to complications related to diabetes. Classy man....they just don't make'em like him any more. |
