NJT 4205 in NJTransits "Speed Stripe" livery is on train 1211 at WC Interlocking in Waldwick, NJ 2/11/2025. NJTRansits GP40PH-2Bs all seem to have oil leaking from the engine compartment as the recently repainted NJT 4208 and one other GP40PH-2B are all showing oil stains where the prime mover is. All of NJTransits GP40PH-2Bs were built as pre Dash-2 GP40s. Built for the New York Central and Penn Central between 1965 and 1969. That makes all of them 55-60 years old, older than me so, I guess a little oil leaking is to be expected. In addition, they were all rebuilt by Conrail in the early 1990s. Its good to see these engines soldiering on in revenue passenger service. I will take an oil stained Geep over a PL42AC or an ALP45DP any day of the week. |
