L&NE 706  Contributor's Pick!
Another slide I bought from the Houser Collection. L&NE 706 at Pen Argyl 10/1961. Elena M Durant collection. This is one of my favorite Northeastern fallen flag and I was only able to purchase two duplicated slides. Charles Houser Jr used to sell duplicate slides at train shows and I only began to have interest in buying slides when he decided to retire from selling slides at train shows. Thus I only have two L&NE slides, the one at Tamaqua and this one. I am assuming this picture was taken after the L&NE ceased operations and was reconditioning their locomotives for prospective buyers. L&NE 706 was the only locomotive to be painted in this final "cigar band" paint scheme as an active L&NE locomotive. All of the FAs would be painted in this "cigar band" paint scheme before leaving the property for their new owners, the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. The only change was the L&N adding Louisville and Nashville in gold or yellow in the white cigar band. The 706 would be later used as a trade in credit to GE.
