AT Caboose 92
Title:  AT Caboose 92
Description:  Auto-Train caboose 92 at Sanford, Florida on an unknown day in February 1980, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 92 was built as a 40 foot boxcar for the FEC, converted to bay window caboose 808 by the FEC, converted to a cupola caboose by AT. It was needed on AT trains after the auto carrier cars were moved to the rear of the train and also when the trains ran in two sections, with one train consisting of just the auto carrier cars.

AT Steam Generator 130
Title:  AT Steam Generator 130
Description:  Auto-Train Steam Generator car 130 at Sanford, Florida on an unknown day in February 1980, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 130 was built by Alco in 1926 as a tender for a Northern Pacific Railway Class A 4-8-4. The tender was classed 43e by the NP and was assembeed with rivets, later NP tenders were welded. Auto-Train's U36B's did not have steam generators, so until conversion to HEP, this car (and at least two other ex-NP tenders, AT 131 and 133) supplied steam heat. The letter F is painted on the forward louvered access door, indicating this end is the Front of the car.

AT U36B 4009
Title:  AT U36B 4009
Description:  Auto-Train U36B 4009 at Sanford, Florida on an unknown day in February 1980, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built December 1971 (c/n 38748) to Seaboard Coast Line specifications, it spent ten years in Auto-Train service before the company went bankrupt in 1981. By 1986, most of the AUT U36B's had been scrapped. Apparently four additional U36B's were ordered by Auto-Train by went to Conrail, AUT #4013-4016 becoming CR #2971-2974. Conrail accepted them on the condition that the EMD Blomberg trucks be replaced with AAR Type-B trucks.

Auto-Train Corporation began service on December 6, 1971 between Lorton, Virginia and Sanford, Florida. The service was a big hit with travelers. Auto-Train expanded and established a short-lived service between Louisville, Kentucky and Sanford, Florida. Lack of success from the Louisville expansion, high crew costs and several spectacular accidents put the company into bankruptcy and ended its services in late April, 1981.
