AMTK E9A 468
Title:  AMTK E9A 468
Description:  Amtrak E9A 468 was built as Union Pacific 909 in September 1961, and it was among the last E-units produced, as only ten more were built after it. The locomotive was leased to Amtrak as the 1414 in May 1972, and sold to them as the 414 in December 1973. The unit was not included in Amtrak’s final big E-unit auction of 1981, and was parked at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal for the next six years. When this photo was taken, the 414 had recently been renumbered 468 in small numerals at the rear; but never operated with this number. It was finally sold and left NOUPT in 1987, and was acquired by the Louisiana Railway Heritage Trust in 2009.

Amtrak Train 58
Title:  Amtrak Train 58
Description:  Because of some problem on the CN-IC, Amtrak train 58 - the northbound CITY OF NEW ORLEANS - was leaving its namesake over the Norfolk Southern. The train was seen here on the NS Outer Belt at milepost 4, near the Marconi Drive underpass, about 15 minutes after it left New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. The CITY had Amtrak 77 for power and would run as NS train R20 to Hattiesburg, where it would get on the CN-IC Beaumont District and then regain its regular route at Jackson, Mississippi.
